25th Anniversary Chinese New Year Celebration - Saturday, Feb 24, 2007
Elephant Seal Nature Tour - Jan 14, 2006Crush the competition. Corral a harem. Mate as often as possible. Members braved the wind and rain on January 14 to watch Elephant Seals at their mating peak at the Ano Neuvo State Reserve. Thereafter, a hot delicious Indonesian boxed lunch, drink and Ice Chendol dessert awaited. An event with nature we won't forget soon! [ Pictures ] Chinese new year - Feb 4, 2006A record-breaking entourage of over 16 tables of members and guests gathered at the Canton Seafood House in San Francisco to celebrate the Year of the Dog! Besides the delicious menu - Suckling pig, King Prawns, Peking Duck, a spectacular Lion Dance show heralded in the Year with a bang. One lucky member also walked away with the first prize in the raffle: Singapore Airlines roundtrip ticket to Singapore! [ Pictures | Article in March 2006 Newsletter ] Beach Blanket Babylon - April 30, 2006 A family event where members enjoyed a 2 pm Sunday Matinee show at Beach Blanket Babylon in San Francisco, had a lazy walk around downtown, then capped the night with a sumptous restaurant meal. [ Article in June 2006 Newsletter ] National Day Celebrations - Aug 5, 2006 Hankering for some Singapore food? Is Roti Prata, Rojak, Satay Beef & Chicken, Laksa whetting your appetite yet? Join us at the Prima Taste restaurant to celebrate Singapore's 41st Birthday. Don't forget to dress like your favourite Singaporean character in our costume competition. You might even meet some new faces - we are inviting several Singapore students from NUS to join - would you like to sponsor them too? [ Article in Sep 2006 Newsletter ] Thanksgiving Dinner - Nov 23, 2006We celebrated a time to be together with friends and to give thanks, at one of our board member's residence. A delicious menu was enjoyed, including roast turkey with two types of stuffing, squash filled orange halves with marshmallow topping, pumpkin pie, and more in the cozy company of SCNC board members and other families. Christmas "Nutcracker" Ballet - Dec 15, 2006 A magical performance of the holiday classic, the Nutcracker, performed by the San Francisco Ballet . We secured a group discount for great seats.

Chinese New Year Banquet - Feb 19, 2005The luxuriously-appointed banquet room of ABC Seafood Restaurant in Foster City was the venue for food, festivity, and fun to usher in the Year of the Rooster. The raffle featured over five prizes including a return air ticket to Singapore on Singapore Airlines and an land tour in Italy![ Pictures | Article in March 2005 Newsletter ] 2. Mystery Spot & Lunch - Apr 23, 2005A treat for both children and adults started with a visit to the Mystery
Spot (web site), Santa Cruz.
This small spot is one of the most unusual places in California and has
amazed and perplexed many visitors with its puzzling variations in gravity,
perspective, height, and more. Our members were not disappointed, despite
the rain. The event was followed by a tour of the Fred and Kate Chen's
Mansion, newly renovated and too spectacular for words. 3. National Day Celebration - Aug 6, 2005A big event befitting a small nation, over 60 members came to toast to
Singapore's 40th year of independence! The event was held at Walnut Creek
from 5 - 8 pm. In addition to our customary costume contest, the festivities
were expanded to include a swimming competition. Very attractive prizes
awaited the fit winners! After the fun and exercise, a large menu of local
goodies, wine and champagne awaited and also a special 40th birthday cake.
4. Mooncake Festival - Sept 17, 2005 Under a full moon, over 25 members gathered for mooncakes, lanterns,
and hot tea under the full moon. More than that, they had a full dinner
of: whole roast pig, chicken drumsticks, bean curd and vegetables, chowmein,
chow fun, and more. The evet was held in Fremont from 6 - 10 pm. Many
dressed in Chinese costume, brought their most spectacular lanterns, and
participated in a lantern contest. 5. South East Asian Picnic - NOV 5, 2005Want some great food? Come share with the uniqueness and multiculturalness of South East Asia with your comrades in the Bay Area at the South East Asian Festival. SCNC is helping to organise this event together with the Malaysian Business and Professional Association, Indonesia Professional Association, Burmese American Professional Society, and the Southeast Asia Leadership Initiative.[ Article in Dec 2005 Newsletter ] 6. Christmas Party - Dec 17, 2005 The
Club rang in the close of 2005 in a jolly way with members and friends
at a Christmas Party. Turkey - stuffed, and other surprising goodies
were feasted upon at the indoors event. Everyone participated in a gift
exchange, sang carols and felt jolly happy.
Club Events held in 20041. Chinese New Year Banquet - Jan 31, 2004Held at the Grand Palace Restaurant in San Francisco. The menu for the banquet featured several delicious food items, while a raffle with the top prize being a return ticket to Singapore on Singapore Airlines was offered. [ Pictures | Newsletter article ] 2. Karaoke Luncheon - Apr 18, 2004 (event cancelled)The Karaoke Luncheon event was cancelled due to low demand. "Sing away your weekday blues on this Sunday event at the Chinatown Restaurant in San Francisco. Our Chinese lunch is suitable for all, and kids and adults are welcome to an enjoyable Karaoke session afterwards. Registration closes Apr 4. Download the registration form and mail or fax it in. 3. Camp Mendocino - Sep 17 - 19, 2004 (event cancelled)The Camp Mendocino event was cancelled due to low demand.Come join us on a Friday - Sunday stay in the
beautiful woods of California. The event is tentative depending on Before
we confirmed the booking we would like to know how many members will be
able to join us. Cost will be around $150 per adult and $75 for children.
Children & dogs not on meal plan are free. Cost include modern rooms
(2 in a room, 3 or 4) with bath, Dinner on Friday, Breakfast, Lunch &
Dinner on Saturday and Brunch on Sunday before departure. Our last VIP
weekend was in 2000. 4. National Day Dinner - Aug 7, 2004 We celebrated Singapore's 39th birthday at a beautiful venue in Fremont,
enjoying tasty food by Banyan Garden. Guests were treated to a spectacular
national dress costume competition from men, women, and children. There
was a very large turnout, some latecomers had to be turned away for capacity
reasons. Indeed it was one of the biggest celebrations in the club's history! 5. Mooncake Festival - Sept 25, 2004Under the brilliant moon, adults and children alike feasted on a delicious
dinner with hot tea and mooncakes at aptly-named Mooncake Festival celebration
in Walnut Creek. We were also entertained by a special member dance performance,
followed by a sparkling lantern competition. 6. Steak and Oysters - Oct 2, 2004Several members who participated enjoyed the gastronomical feast of salad, baked potato, oysters the size of small plates, and steak, all served with wine, soda, dessert, and coffee. They enjoyed a night of entertainment with a live band led by an excellent singer. Mood lighting also awaited their moves on the dance floor. 7. Crab Cioppino - Dec 11, 2004With the close of the crab season, the Portugese Club invited our members to enjoy an all-you-can-eat hot or cold crab served with salad and garlic bread, plus wine and soda. Dances and music rang in the close of 2004 at this San Jose event. Club Events held in 20031. Chinese New Year Banquet - Feb 8, 2003Held at Oakland's Peony Restaurant, the fine food and ambience were enjoyed by all some 120 members and friends.2. Spring Makan and Karaoke - Sat, April 26, 2003Held at Sentosa Restaurant 12 pm - 3 pm.Members enjoyed a delicious Singaporean lunch with Karaoke afterwards. Click here for menu and more info. 3. National Day Celebration - Aug 9, 2003Many members and friends joined us in our celebration of the Singapore National Day. Prizes for best national costume and local food served.4. Mooncake Festival - Sept 13, 2003An perennial favorite, held in the hill top estate of one of our members. Members brought along their children to celebrate the tradition of the Mooncake festival. Buffet Dinner and Lantern competition were the highlights.5. Thanksgiving Dinner - Nov 27, 2003A first for the Club, this traditional holiday was celebrated by SCNC members and their families in a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner with a Singaporean twist and great company among friends. |
